Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette, known as Colette, born on 28 January 1873 in Saint-Sauveur-en-Puisaye (Yonne) and died on 3 August 1954 in Paris, was a French woman of letters, as well as a mime, actress and journalist. She is one of the most famous novelists, both in France and abroad, in French literature. Her bisexuality, affirmed and asserted, occupied a large place in her life and work. The second woman to be elected to the Académie Goncourt (in 1945, after Judith Gautier in 1910), she was its president between 1949 and 1954.
