In-folio, the most complete edition of this elegant documentation of the medals issued during the reign of Louis XV between 1715 (when he became king, at the age of five) and 1736 ("The education of Monsieur le Dauphin" ). The author, Nicolas Godonnesche, was an engraver and Guardian of the Medals of the King's Cabinet.
Edition illustrated with a title page of Le Moine and engraved by Cars, an engraved title, an engraved epistle and 78 plates of medals (one medal per table). The medals are in the center of engraved frames, different for each table. All the plates are numbered. Edition of 1749 much improved and enlarged with 81 plates. Cohen mentions only this latest edition, much rarer than the previous ones.
Entirely engraved work. Allegorical front door engraved with an explanation of the allegorical meaning below the figure, reproduced on old paper. Title page with title within a large ornamental coat of arms without place or date of publication, but Paris 1749, engraved dedication by the author to the sovereign and 78 full-page illustrations, of medals, arranged in chronological order, accompanied by a description within richly decorated ornamental borders , all engraved in copper.

Subsequent binding in blue half leather, blue marbled plates, titles on the spine, signs of wear, fresh interior on heavy laid cardboard, brilliant inks, prints in excellent condition, with no apparent defects, the front door is reproduced on vintage paper - Pp.
