Luxury edition printed on large paper (not justified), partly first edition, with a previously unpublished preface by Jules Clarétie, and first illustrated, of this novel on the Bourgeois milieu and power during the 19th century, initially published in 1881 by Dentu.
Work published in the collection of the Chefs-d'Oeuvre du roman Contemporain, adorned with 10 original compositions by Adrien Marie delicately etched by Wallet with tip-ins.
Paperback, printed cover with flaps, front cover adorned with an embossed medallion in colour with the title of the collection in a garland accompanied by an olive branch. In a soft paperboard folder (label adorning the spine) and a mouse grey rigid slipcase.
Uncropped copy, fresh interior, yellowed tissues. Slipcase and folder in very good condition.
