Petrus Johannes Kasteleijn (1746-1794) was a pharmacist and chemist in Amsterdam, also a poet, writer and member of the Batavian Society of Experimental Philosophy in Rotterdam.
In this work he describes the art of porcelain making. It concerns an edited translation of a French book written by Nicolas Christiern de Thy, Comte De Milly, supplemented with notes, a treatise by d'Entrecolles on Chinese porcelain and a historical sketch of European porcelain.

The work is part of the collection 'Complete Description of all arts, crafts, handicrafts, factories, trades, their workhouses, genre tools, etc.', a series of publications partly copied from well-known foreign works by various authors and supplemented or edited by Dutch writers . This book is the third piece in a collection of more than 15 volumes published in the late 18th - early 19th centuries.
