Charming manuscripts noting (starting from the 1500s and until 1809) the births,
baptisms and obituaries of the members of the
Tornieri family, noble family of Vicenza.

Contained in a magnificent and very rare sixteenth-century full leather binding, with large and splendid dry etched fan decorations (on both board), gilded and framed by 4 elegant frames at the edges, where there are traces of silk ties. Very robust and perfectly preserved boards and spine.





26 pages entirely handwritten and 38 blank ones, as it was originally.

The 26 handwritten pages were not, of course, written by the same hand.

Various handwritings over the years, starting from the 1500s and up to the early 1800s, documenting births, baptisms and
obituaries.

The lot is embellished by a handwritten and signed letter, on folded parchment, with a blind stamp, not fully decipherable, in the lower part.
It deals with the baptism, in Vicenza, of the son of Alessandro Tornieri, in the presence of his father, Cesare Tornieri. Count Arnaldo Tornieri was born in Vicenza in 1739.




Intellectual, chronicler and historian, he was an important bibliophile collector. Thanks to his collection, donated at the end of the 1800s, the ancient documentary heritage of the Biblioteca Bertoliana was greatly enriched.



Tornieri's residence, in Contra' Porti in Vicenza, became an actual museum, frequented by many foreign visitors. The members of the Tornieri family boasted the title of counts after the granting of Maximilian Joseph, Duke and Elector of Bavaria.
