Germany - Seal (emblem) of the city Wetzlar - 13th century - bronze

Germany. Siegel (Typar) of the town of Wetzlar, Hesse. Made in the 13th century. Bronze, 66 mm.
Flat sealing plate, recto with a finely cut representation of the ruler with orb and scepter above the city with a mirror-image inscription "SECRETVM CIVITATIS WETFLARIENSIS". Verso a wedge-shaped handle.
This seal is unique and the only surviving seal from that period the city of Wetzlar. Several documents from 1301 were hereby certified, as well as the letter correspondence between the then rulers. A photograph of a seal-imprint this seal can be seen at the Museum of Wetzlar.
The State seal is in the lawful possession and has an impeccable provenance, as well as two opinions of the authenticity and age determination.
