Hoffer, Eduard (1841-1915), Entomologe.
He first studied law at the University of Vienna, then from 1864 natural sciences at the University of Graz, 1867 Dr.phil., 1870 teacher's examination in natural history, mathematics and physics. From 1870 to 1912 he taught as a professor at the Landesrealschule Graz, where he built up the natural history collection into one of the best in Austria. Here he developed the natural history collection into one of the best in Austria. He tirelessly devoted all his free time to collecting and observing, and in doing so he amassed a unique collection of Styrian hymenoptera. His studies were primarily concerned with the bumblebees and parasitic bumblebees of Styria, whose biology he researched in detail. His observations in this field are still of lasting value today.
