First edition. Lettre inédite de Charles Maurras à l'auteur de l'Ode "Pour la bataille de l'intelligence", 72 pages, Editions du Cèdre.
This letter was written by Maurras while in prison. The mention "No. d'écrou 2048" on the cover indicates the number assigned to Charles Maurras in the Riom prison.
A rare work, with a print run of only 200 copies (this is the number 142). Rives vellum paper. Very lovely watermarked paper, printed on the presses of Jouve.
Quarto, unpaginated, softcover. In mint condition apart from some light friction on the cover, Uncut, uncropped.
The work begins with a facsimile reproduction on 8 pages of Charles Maurras' manuscript (Riom, 26 August 1945). This is followed by a typed transcription of the same letter to Abbé Lefevre, whose pseudonym in "poetic religion" is Jean-Marc d'Anthoïne. The second part of the work consists of the text which is the subject of Maurras' letter: "Inde Irae, ode pour la bataille de l'intelligence".
This text by Abbé Lefevre was described by Paul Valery as "one of the most beautiful odes one could read".
This extremely rare work was never republished.
