The military health services (that is to say those of the army that became the land army in the 20th century) were instituted by Louis XIV by the edict of 17th January 1708 establishing the offices of royal doctors and surgeons.

Description:

Superb French officer’s sword, for a colonel or superior officer. Grip with floral decor, single-branch guard, functional clamshell with the symbol of the corps of military doctors with floral decor and flags. Superb blade in its original condition with fullers, clean, fairly rare as very few of this model are found. Solid iron sheath with one ring. Original brown tie. Strap of gilded thread.
