Netherlands, Leiden. 28 Stuivers 1574 - 1975 ( Herslag)

Token produced after the emergency currency of 1574, struck during the Siege of Leiden.
The obverse depicts a coat of arms with the crossed keys of Leiden within a scrollwork cartouche.
Around, between two pearl rims, two bands of script: "N.O.V.L.S.G.I.P.A", and "GODT . BEHOEDE . LEYDEN".
The reverse shows a climbing lion in the centre, holding a lance in its paws, and with a freedom hat on top with "15 74" on either side.
At the top a crown and the legend: 'HAEC . LIBERTATIS . ERGO". The token was made to award the most deserving of civil servants.
