Electric train set "Hondekop" of the NS in NS yellow livery, with the NS logo and blue advertising banners.
In 1954 the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) ordered electric train-sets due to the rapid electrification of the main routes.
Among the NS these trains were referred to as “Material 54”.
Because of their distinctive shape they were given the nickname “Hondekop” (Dog’s Head).
All together 68 two-piece train sets of the type ELD2 were delivered to the NS. These were mainly used for Intercity services.
This model is driven by a powerful motor, which drives the train via a drive-shaft in the bogie.
Front-signal lighting alternates between yellow and red with changes in the direction of travel.
Train is equipped with 5-pin current conducting couplings between the carriages and with a digital 8-pin NEM connection to the powerful Piko multi-protocol-decoder.
This model impresses one thanks to its exact imitation of the characteristic shape of its front end and the realistic imitation of the different bogies and its fine detailing.
