Born in Héricourt in 1703, died in Halle in January 1773, Choffin was professor of modern languages at the University of Halle in Germany and publisher. Among his many works: "Abrégé de la vie de divers princes illustres et des grands capitaines" and "Dictionnaire abrégé de la fable ou de la mythologie".
In this book he wrote short chapters dealing with a wide range of topics, such as literature, history, fruits, botany, zoology, the universe, classical antiquity, architecture, death, linguistics, minerals, snow etc.
