The marvellous coloured print depicts the shelling of Antwerp by the Spaniards on 4 November 1576.
At that moment, a revolt was going on in the Spanish army for an extreme lack of pay. Approx. 10,000 Spanish soldiers decided to plunder the rich city of Antwerp. The residents were murdered, raped and robbed for three days.
