German / Italian - Rare 'Bei Mussolini' Biography - beautiful sketches - of famous sculpturer Fritz Behn - 1934

Very interesting 1934 dated biography of Mussolini written by famous artist Fritz Behn. Signed and dated by Fritz Behn on front cover. S Fritz Behn (born June 16, 1878 in Klein Grabow; January 26, 1970 in Munich; full name Max Adolf Friedrich Behn) was a German sculptor who gained importance primarily with his African animal sculptures. He had a relationship of his own with Benito Mussolini, leader of the Italian fascists. In this context, Schieder assesses Behn as a "philo-fascist artist of sentiments" and as an uncritical admirer of the "Duce" who repeatedly invited Behn to audiences in the summer of 1934. Behn portrayed Mussolini with the greatest possible admiration as he was making a martial porphyry bust, which was made after his visit to Rome, as a large, noble animal charged with energy and power. He published a book about this in 1934 ("In Mussolini's A Portrait Study").

This is a really difficult to find issue with Mussolini on the cover, which will be a grear item for your WW2 collection!
