On 7 April 1939, Italy invaded Albania and on 12 April Albania capitulated, King Zog flees to Greece and the Albanian parliament had offered the crown to the Italian king Vittorio Emanuele III. This created an environment that led to the birth of many Albanian "Resistance" organizations. First against the Italians, then against the Germans and finally against the Communists.
In the 1940s, a set of 4 stamps with scenes of Albanian resistance fighters appeared for the first time. And in the late 1940s, a 2nd, 3rd and 4th series appeared. A series updated in 1952 and finally overprinted stamps in the 1960s.
