Gorgeous copy, in its original vellum, of this rare sixteenth-century edition of the Odyssey in Latin / Greek -

Homer (in ancient Greek Ὅμηρος / Hómēros, "hostage" or "he who is obliged to follow"1) is reputed to have been an aede (poet) of the late eighth century BC. J.-C. He was simply nicknamed "the Poet" (ὁ Ποιητής / ho Poiētḗs) by the Ancients.
The first two works of Western literature, the Iliad and the Odyssey, are attributed to him.
