I have here for sale a book entitled INCWADI YAMI or Twenty Years' Personal Experience in South Africa by J W Matthews. It is a first edition published by Rogers & Sherwood in New York in 1887. 51 b/w plates.

The author, a medical doctor, South African colonist and partner in several diamond fields was 'for many years closely identified with every social and political movement on the Fields, and his description of the diamond fields, and his references to the 'Illicit Diamond Trade', are particularly interesting. There are particulars of 'The Kimberly Company and Share Mania of 1881', 'The early History of the Diamond Fields', 'An account of the Black Flag Riot', together with sketches of the author's adventures in Basutoland, Swaziland, and the Transvaal, where he eventually settled'.

Dark blue hardboards with a gilt image of 2 African natives to the front board as well as gilt lettering and the authors signature in the bottom right corner. Spine has a gilt sunburst image and lettering. Some wear to corners but boards firm and pages are clean. In very good condition overall. 542 pages, 24 cm x 16 cm.
