Germain Brice - Nouvelle Description de la Ville de Paris - 1725

Germain Brice - Nouvelle Description de la Ville de Paris - 1725

A lovely work. It is as a walker curious about all the architectural riches of Paris and a fine connoisseur of the collections of the amateurs of the time that Germain Brice describes the beauties of the capital.

Germain Brice (1653-1727) is part of a long line of Parisian historians initiated by Gilles Corrozet and Father Jacques du Breul.
Nevertheless, he stands out from his predecessors by offering a modern vision of the city in his book presented in the form of a practical guide for travellers, giving them the opportunity to discover the architectural and artistic riches of the capital. This innovative approach ensured him a real success and made this book the most popular guide to Paris of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
