M. Savary - Le Coran - 1787

First edition of this interesting translation, which follows that of André du Ryer from 1647. We are in the presence of a radically different work since Savary tried, in his translation, to respect as much as possible the style of the original, its division into verses and giving it literary figures suitable to be heard in his time in the West.

Of very great interest for the notes by the author himself. It should be noted that Savary, orientalist and pioneer of Egyptology, was the first to speak of the eminently political aspect of the text, and one of the first to theorize the religious project as a precept of the regeneration of the Arab nation. In short, a work of essential scope to the understanding of the worlds and to put things in perspective.

Amusing mention of a fictional place of publication “Mecca,” and dated from the year Hegira 1165... which is 1787-
