Contax II A + Sonnar Opton 2/50mm

Contax II A + Sonnar Opton 2/50mm

The Contax II is a 35 mm rangefinder camera. It was released in 1936 and was the successor to the original Contax camera, later called Contax I. It was the first camera with rangefinder and viewfinder combined in a single window. Its chief designer was Hubert Nerwin. The Nettax was supposed to be a cheaper alternative, it was a development of the Super Nettel with a rigid body and interchangeable lenses, with a specific bayonet and a very limited range of lenses.

The Contax ll was Zeiss’ impressive response to the popularity and demand for the Leica 35 mm camera. This demand for high-quality 35 mm imaging tools was based on the portability and increasing availability of 35 mm film, packaged in reels and marketed to amateur and professional photographers.
