Emile Verhaeren / Henri Cassiers - Les Flamandes - 1927

A lovely illustrated edition, embellished with 26 compositions by Henri Cassiers superbly enhanced in watercolour, including 1 frontispiece and 3 headbands. A collection of poems about Flanders by the Belgian "national poet" Emile Verhaeren.

Print run limited to 1076 copies, one of 1000 copies (numbered from No. 77 to 1076) on pure Esparto vellum paper (No. 694), containing a version of the 26 watercolours in and out of text in colour by Henri Cassiers.
The second book in the "Les Gloires Littéraires" collection.

While Camille Lemonnier published "Le Mort" and "Un Mâle", in 1883 the Belgian poet Emile Verhaeren (1855-1916) published his first verses in the collection "Les Flamandes", naturalist poems, followed by "Les Bords de la route" and "Poèmes Inédits". He describes the peasants, paints the countryside and celebrates the art of the Flemings.
