Anne of Great Britain - 1 Shilling 1703 'VIGO' under the bust of the queen. Struck with silver taken from the Spanish in the Bay of Vigo during the Battle of Rande or Battle of Vigo. Silver, 5.88 g. Very rare.


According to the reports of Sir Isaac Newton (master of minting since 1699), the amount of 4,504 pounds and 2 ounces of silver and 7 pounds and 8 ounces of gold. With them a thousand pounds were struck in English gold, silver and fleece, with the legend "VIGO" under the bust of the queen.
