Very rare first edition (false mention of third edition), of this work written by Mme Gay, who was able to depict the literary, artistic and upper-class milieu in which she has always been immersed.

Wikipedia: " Her salon ended up being frequented by all the distinguished writers, musicians, actors and painters of her time, attracted by her beauty, vivacity and many qualities3 Among its regulars were all of the literary and upper class darlings: Benjamin Constant, the Duke of Broglie, M. de Pontécoulant, Chateaubriand, le duc de Choiseul, M. de Lamoignon, le duc de Léri, Michel Regnaud de Saint-Jean d'Angély, Népomucène Lemercier, le comte de Forbin, le comte Perrégaux, le comte Germain, Étienne de Jouy, Dupaty, Alexandre Duval1. Also an actress 3, at Alexandre Duval’s party, she played an impromptu comedy, whose actors were Boïeldieu, the Prince of Chimay, the Grassini, Alvimare and Talma himself. Among the regulars of her salon were Thérésa Tallien, Juliette Récamier, Madame Pellaprat, the Marquise de Custine, Madame Regnaud de Saint-Jean d'Angély, Madame de Barraln 4 and her cousin, Madame de Grécourt1.
