François De Salignac De La Mothe Fenelon - Les Aventures de Télémaque, Fils d'Ulysse - 1783

François De Salignac De La Mothe Fenelon - Les Aventures de Télémaque, Fils d'Ulysse - 1783

A lovely edition.

Fénelon recounts the peregrinations of Telemachus, accompanied by Mentor, an avatar of Minerva - a pretext for moral and political education which was also - and above all - seen, at the time, as a satire of the reign of Louis XIV: "the arrogant prince Idomeneus thus appears as a particularly evocative image of the Sun King”.

The work by Fénelon exerted a profound influence on the philosophical thinking of the 18th century, that of the Enlightenment.
Thus, Montesquieu described it as “livre divin de ce siècle” and was inspired by it by adopting the same process of disassociation in his “Lettres persanes”.
