figurative pipe bowl

figurative pipe bowl

Rare wooden stove with a very nice patina of use.

This is a very interesting and rather intriguing pipe. It is not obvious where this pipe could come from because it does not correspond to any of the basic typologies. Certainly not Japan/China/Indochina, nor African or European. The material, type of carving, animal, platform-like pattern, and coating of the copper bowl indicate a tribal pipe. Most likely Central America or possibly northern South America.
