Velvet Underground & Nico - Nico / The End... - LP Album - 1st Pressing, Japanese pressing - 1982/1982
Nico– The End...
Christa Päffgen (October 16, 1938 – July 18, 1988), known by her stage name Nico, was a German singer, songwriter, musician, model and actress.
She had roles in several films including Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita (1960) and Andy Warhol's Chelsea Girls (1966).
At Warhol's urging, she sang on three songs of the Velvet Underground's debut album The Velvet Underground & Nico (1967). At the same time, she launched a solo career and released Chelsea Girl.
Nico's friend Jim Morrison suggested that she write her own material.
She then composed songs on a harmonium, not traditionally a rock instrument.
John Cale of The Velvet Underground became their musical arranger and produced The Marble Index, Desertshore, The End... and other subsequent albums.
In the 1980s she toured extensively in Europe, the United States, Australia and Japan.
After a concert in Berlin in June 1988, she went on holiday to Ibiza to rest and died as a result of a bicycle accident.
The End... is her fifth collaboration with John Cale and second with him as producer.
It carries the same harmonium-based sound heard on The Marble Index (1968) and Desertshore (1970), with the addition of Brian Eno's synthesizers and electronic instruments.
It includes the unique adaptation of The Doors' cult song "The End"
