École Française (XIX) - Marguerite au rouet

French romantic school of the 19th century. Around 1860.
Marguerite at the spinning wheel, scene from Goethe's Faust (1801). Marguerite weeps over her abandonment by Faust. Subject abundantly treated by romantic artists (Eugène Delacroix, Ary Scheffer, Auguste Raynaud, James Tissot, Pascal Dagnan-Bouveret,...).
The Prado Museum in Madrid has a painting of similar workmanship signed by Manuel Domínguez Sánchez (1840-1906).
Bears an illegible signature lower right on the stool.
Very nice quality. No restoration visible under Wood's lamp.
Mahogany panel 73x56 cm, stuccoed frame with bronze patina 92x74cm.
Provenance: Private collection, Paris.
