Denis Diderot / Jean-Baptiste D'Alembert - Encyclopedie ou Dictionnaire Raisonné des Sciences, des Arts et des Metiers - 1781
36 tomes in 72 volumes with 2 volumes of planches out of the 3 originally printed (vol 1 of the planches is missing), for a total of 74 volumes. The volumes were evidently kept in a library with some problems of humidity and the presence of mice that created problems for some volumes. Half vellum binding with corners and title on a label on the spine: traces of dust on the spines, boards overall rather worn, some with small defects to the paper coating, the corners of the boards of many volumes are deformed, some labels are very faded.
The second of the two editions in reduced format, in 8vo, of the Encyclopedia of Diderot-D'Alembert published by Les Sociétés Typographiques under the direction of Pierre Rousseau. On the frontispiece of volume one, portrait of D. Diderot. The text is accompanied by 16 tables, folded several times and tipped-in.
We have included some photographs, which illustrate the worst flaws of the volumes. Please look at the pictures carefully.
