Reference work conveying the Cartesian theory of the animal-machine by Professor Pardies, close to Descartes and Newton.

Ignace Gaston Pardies was regarded in his time, by the still very numerous supporters of peripateticism, as a Cartesian in disguise, he constantly defended himself against it, but without being able to convince them.
He was obliged several times to justify the principles he had advanced, for the sole reason that they did not agree with those of the School.

Contains: a vignette, a cul-de-lampe, an initial engraved on copper. Bookseller's mark on the title.

Provenance: From the library of Academician Henri Lavedan with his handwritten ex-libris. Handwritten mention of the first owner in 1673 (in the title and on the last white sheet).
