Tudor Beasts 2 Oz Silver Coin 2022 "Lion of England" Gold Ruthenium
This exclusive ruthenium gold edition double ounce of purest 999 fine silver is dedicated to the Lion of England. The lion is one of the earliest animals to appear in royal emblems; a traditional symbol of strength and bravery.
Limited to 1000 pieces - with certificate and numbered box.
The first recorded use was as a gift of a blue shield adorned with small golden lions, given to Geoffrey Plantagenet by Henry I when he married Henry's daughter Matilda in 1127. As long as England had its own shield, it always displayed the lion in some form—the Norman kings of England used motifs featuring the fierce beast, a tradition that became consistent under Henry II and his son Richard I the Lionheart in the twelfth century.
