Luxury morocco binding signed Durvand.
First edition of this work on Marie-Louise of Austria, who was Empress, second wife of Napoleon. Frédéric Masson (1847-1923), is a famous historian and academician, a great specialist in Napoleonic studies.

First edition, In-4 (32.5x25 cm), 426 p [1] off. Luxury binding by the publisher in full olive green long-grain morocco signed Durvand. Smooth spine richly adorned with 2 grotesque boxes and the Empress's monogram, and various wheels. Boards stamped with the arms of the Empress in the center, framing frieze with foliage in the spandrels. Interior frieze composed of Empire motifs. Frontispiece enhanced in color and 51 illustrations printed in sepia and various tints, superbly executed. Gilding signed J. Fau on the 1st cover. Golden slices. One of 1000 copies on rives paper. No. 359.

Very good condition, very slight scratch on the 4th cover.
