Beautiful autograph letter signed by George Sand in blue ink - Nohant - 3 [October 1862] - 50 lines - 21 x 14 cm
The letter is addressed to Antoine Cartier, Count of Aure, famous squire and darling of the court of Louis XVIII and then Charles X. His daughter-in-law Thérèse Blanc is invited to Nohant. George Sand tells him how to get there by stagecoach. The letter also mentions Maurice Sand, the writer's son, as well as Alexandre Manceau, her secretary and lover. The letter gives an idea of the atmosphere that could reign in the castle at that time.
"My dear sir, as I was not up this morning, instead of your letter, I had our host and friend Manceau tell you to write to you quickly, quickly, the itinerary before the mail leaves. You must receive it in time. Nohant is before La Châtre. So all you have to do is stop it in front of my door when coming from Châteauroux. (...) This itinerary will be useful for you when you come to see us , I am counting on your promise. (...) You are kind and kind to entrust your child to us and to trust that we will take care of it as our own. We will be nice also for the aunt, rest easy. We are good people without arrogance. (...) As soon as our travelers have arrived, we will give you their news. Maurice sends you all his affection, Monceau all his compliments and me all my thanks and friendships of heart."
