Medal of King Frans 1 Battle of Marignan
The Battle of Marignano took place south of Milan on September 13 and 14, 1515. At least 15,000 soldiers were killed in this battle, many of them Swiss. Troops of King Francis I of France faced troops of Ferdinand II of Aragon who ruled the Duchy of Milan.
Obverse: Bust King Frans 1 to the right, armored bust (salamander on the breastplate) and draped to the left of François I laureate.
