Ancient Russian icon “The Mother of God Pokrov” and “St. Romanesque” from the second half of the 18th century. Hand-painted with egg tempera on a wooden panel on a chalk base and a gold primer. Typical icon-making method in the 18th and 19th centuries in Tsarist Russia.
The painting is masterly and finely executed (see photos). Perfectly coordinated color contrasts and successful shades. The painting contains very fine and authentic craquelure. Partial restorations are present. The icon is in good condition with typical age-related signs of wear (see photos).
The icon and the saints are inscribed. Some of the inscriptions have completely rubbed off.
This is a Central Russian work from the second half of the 18th century.
Forehead sponkas are let in at the top and bottom. Heavy and stable wooden board.
