We offer 6 lovely vintage sosaku kokeshi. All have that lovely Japanese feeling to them. They depict a Japanese landscape/portrait and/or have a poem. One still have some bark visible and is signed by the artisan.

Kokeshi are wooden handmade artisanal dolls from Japan. The most prevalent theory is that they appeared during the Tempo period (1830 - 1843) in the mountainous Tohoku region. Initially, they were intended as toys for the children. Later they became popular souvenirs and real decorative items, for some even collector items.

The heights of the kokeshi in this lot range from: 11cm to 18cm.
