Corneille (1922-2010) - Le Volcan - Mer du sud

This year we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the painter Guillaume Corneille!
Corneille retrospective at the Cobra Museum in Amstelveen until January 15th.

Warning: one of our last copies! Work soon definitively sold out at our gallery. Atelier Corneille stamp on the back.

A flamboyant work reproduced in numerous books.

In the wake of Gauguin and Matisse, Corneille creates a jovial and colorful work that celebrates harmony with nature. Here the 4 elements are represented. The erupting volcano is a nod to the Italian landscape, the painter having set up his studio for several years in a medieval tower near Macerata. It is also more generally a reference to the Mediterranean which has regularly inspired her in her work.

Original screenprint by the painter Guillaume Corneille (1922-2010), born in Liège to Dutch parents, founding member of the Cobra movement.
