A flamboyant work reproduced in numerous books.
In the wake of Gauguin and Matisse, Corneille creates a jovial and colorful work that celebrates harmony with nature. Here the 4 elements are represented. The erupting volcano is a nod to the Italian landscape, the painter having set up his studio for several years in a medieval tower near Macerata. It is also more generally a reference to the Mediterranean which has regularly inspired her in her work.
