Thomas van Apshoven (1622–1664/7) was a Flemish painter, a pupil of David Teniers the Younger (1610-1690), whose artistic qualities and subjects he shared to the point that some works by Van Apshoven have been attributed to Teniers. Both are considered among the most important artists of the Flemish seventeenth century and this painting is also a testimony of the cultural "heritage" of that period.
Van Apshoven's scenes mostly portray countryside landscapes, village scenes, tavern interiors, which the artist often sets in uncrowded compositions.
This beautiful painting "Landscape with figures" set in a Dutch countryside, is an oil on canvas measuring 54x75 cm, with the frame measuring 64x85 cm.
