This Mercedes 230 SL Pagoda has had only three owners since its original purchase in 1965. The first owner kept the car until sometime in the mid-1980s, after which the second owner took possession.

There is an insurance certificate from 1991 proving the car was owned by the second owner at that time. It was regularly driven until 2015, and in 2018 the second owner began an extensive restoration. This work was meticulously documented with invoices.

Between 2018 and 2020, this Mercedes 230 SL Pagoda underwent an extensive restoration to ensure the car’s durability, including significant welding work to reinforce the structure for the future.

In 2020, the car came into the possession of us following the passing of the second owner. We completed the restoration to perfection. Thanks to the significant investments made in this restoration, the authenticity and quality of this Pagoda are preserved. The detailed documentation and craftsmanship reflects our dedication to maintaining the heritage and charm of this classic model.

The bodywork, including the hardtop, was stripped down to bare metal. The car was then repainted in the classic Mercedes color Mittelblau Metallic (color code 396), a shade available from 1965 to 1972. This color, paired with the stylish beige interior and black accents, gives the car an elegant and sporty appearance. The accents on the original wheel covers were also painted in the same blue hue, lending the vehicle a harmonious and authentic look.

Once the bodywork was completed, the engine was opened for the installation of a new timing set and head gasket, followed by a comprehensive technical overhaul. The wiring harness was largely renewed, the engine was reinstalled, and a new electronic ignition system with an original appearance was added. A powerful Bosch S5 004 battery (61 Ah) was installed for high starting capacity, along with a new electric fuel pump, cold-start injector, spark plugs, and brakes.

The interior was also completely renewed, featuring a new wood trim set, ashtray, retractable antenna for the radio, reupholstered seats, carpets, pedals, and a new convertible top.

No expenses were spared to bring this car to close to concours condition. It is a prestigious project with an impressive transformation, and the final result reflects outstanding quality.

The car can be viewed in Melle, Belgium.

All documentation is available and the car is ready to go to a new owner.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
