DESCRIPTION
In 1636, a journey took place between Hamburg and Portugal that would prove to be the root of a long story: Nicolau Köpke arrived in his new country as Consul General of the Hanseatic Cities. Two years later, in 1638, he signed the first bottles of wine sent to Northern Europe.
The purchase of a farm in Douro, in 1781, marks the transition from a purchasing company to a large wine producer. Port Wines are gaining importance in the company, quickly becoming the main business. Nicolau Kopke & Co. becomes an example of innovation, integrating wine production and trade in the same company.
In 1841, the firm assumed the name of C. N. Kopke, a name which remains as such to this day.
In the coming centuries, Kopke will strive to honor its legacy, which has been built with passion across generations.
WINEMAKERS: Ricardo Macedo.

VINIFICATION
The harvest was made in the second week of September by hand to small capacity boxes. Vinification was carried out with total destemming and crushing. Alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel vats for 12 days followed by peculiar maceration for 15 days. Part of the malolactic fermentation in barrels. Matured in new and second year french oak barrels of 225 litres for 14 months.
2019 TASTING NOTES
Very defined aromas of ripe fruit, with notes of spice and harmonious with notes of wood. The palate conveys elegant structure, velvety tannins and unctuousness. A deep, balanced and engaging wine, developing into a refreshing finish.

This smooth, ripe wine is already delicious. With its softness and the merest hint of tannins, the wine has spice from wood aging and full, balanced black fruits.

The wine was aged in wood, giving succulent richness and a smooth texture that means the wine is almost ready to drink.
