This region has 1120 hectares of vineyards and, like Pomerol, has small wineries, and the price of wine is on the higher side, although not as high as in Pomerol. The Merlot grape variety is the dominant variety here with 75% planted. The soils vary from sand to gravel and clay, but it is mainly the areas with gravel and clay that produce the best wines that are comparable to Pomerol. These wines also have the potential to age and have a rich, full, velvety texture with a beautiful bouquet.
