Three Chokwe combs - Chokwe - Angola (No Reserve Price)

Set of three traditional Chokwe combs, carved from dark, hard wood, each decorated with geometric motifs typical of the repertoire of this population present in Angola, the DRC, and Zambia. These combs were not merely hair accessories but objects of prestige associated with aesthetics, identity, and social status within their communities.

The three visible specimens each feature a rectangular upper panel, finely decorated with incised motifs: triangles, checkered patterns, hatching lines, or cross compositions. These motifs often symbolize beauty, social order, and elements of Chokwe cosmology. The long, tapered teeth are typical of ancient craftsmanship combs.

These objects were traditionally used by women, but also served as courtesy gifts or as markers of prestige during ceremonies and rites of passage.
