Coppia di fregi lignei in stile art nouveau, intagliati con raffinatezza e spirito ornamentale, che uniscono il gusto figurativo al decoro vegetale. La parte superiore è dominata da due testine femminili, rese con espressione assorta e lineamenti delicati: da un lato la chioma si trasforma in maschera leonina, dall’altro si arriccia in volute quasi floreali. È un intaglio che sorprende per la precisione dei tratti, ma soprattutto per la capacità di coniugare forza simbolica ed eleganza formale.

Dalle teste prende avvio un rigoglioso festone di frutti e fiori, dove si riconoscono melagrane, boccioli, grappoli e rosette, tutti avvolti da un nastro che corre a spirale lungo lo sviluppo verticale della composizione. L’effetto è quello di un brulicare vitale che si raccoglie però entro uno schema rigoroso, capace di restituire insieme movimento e armonia.

L’intaglio, di bella qualità e di forte resa plastica, appartiene a quella tradizione che tra XIX e XX secolo fece largo uso di elementi naturalistici per arricchire sovrapporte, specchiere e boiseries, con richiami tanto al repertorio classico quanto al gusto barocco e rocaille ma con maggiore cura per il vero naturalistico.
