The muse is a young local Mauritian woman, relaxed and smiling, enjoying a slice of fresh watermelon. She posed for both Peter Engels and his daughter Montana Engels, each creating a portrait in their own signature style, Peter with expressive palette knife strokes, Montana with her precise vertical line technique. In this artwork, the woman looks straight at the viewer. Her sunlit brown skin glows with natural highlights; her wet, combed-back hair holds droplets of water. She wears golden earrings and a white necklace. Behind her, palm leaves, sea breeze and hints of the ocean create a warm island atmosphere.
