This brass sextant in a wooden case dates to the recent period and offers precise graduations combined with a refined maritime display for navigational enthusiasts.
Description from the seller
Brass sextant in a wooden box.
A sextant measures the angle between a celestial body (such as the sun or a star) and the horizon to determine a ship's position. This is done by looking through a telescope at the horizon and simultaneously adjusting a movable mirror until the reflection of the celestial body aligns exactly with the horizon. The measured angle, combined with the date and time, makes it possible to calculate the latitude and longitude using navigation tables.
Very beautiful brass version, with a beautiful scale division.
This concerns a reproduction of an English sextant.
Box 25 cm x 22 cm x 11 cm (L x W x H).
Sextant, height 8 cm, width 20 cm.
Total weight: 2.7 kg.
Sextant is safely packed and shipped registered and insured with track & trace.
