1 double-sided sheet – Piece rescued from a fire. The paper is handmade and, as was common at the time, polished by hand. Smoothed laid paper (Büttenpapier).
Photos 18 and 19 show the cover of the Quran but I do not have it.

Superb manuscript of the Quran, front and back, from the early 17th century, calligraphed on smooth laid paper and richly enhanced with gold.

Magnificent double-page leaf, front and back, from an ancient manuscript Quran, dated to the early 17th century. Text in finely written naskh script in black ink, with red vowels, blue and green diacritics, a gold frame, and gold circles marking the end of verses (āyāt). Marginal mention 'ḥizb' in red, indicating the traditional liturgical division of the Quran.
The harmonious composition, balanced margins, and fine linework attest to the work of an expert copyist. Overall good condition for a 17th-century piece. Small marginal foxing and age marks are present without affecting the text. The gilding and inks remain vivid, and the calligraphy is perfectly legible.
Partial Translation
Surah Al-Kahf – Verses 45 to 53
And present to them the example of worldly life: it is like water which We send down from the sky, and it mingles with the plants of the earth, then it becomes dry and scattered by the winds. And Allah is over all things competent. (45)
Wealth and children are the adornment of worldly life; but the enduring righteous deeds are better with your Lord for reward and better for hope. (46)
And the day We will move the mountains and see the earth exposed, and We will gather them, leaving not a single one of them behind.
And they will be presented before your Lord, standing in rows. You have come to us just as We created you the first time. But you claimed that We would never make for you a meeting.
And the record will be placed, and you will see the criminals fearful of what is in it, and they will say, 'Oh, woe to us! What is this record that leaves nothing small or large without counting it?' And they will find what they did present, and your Lord does not wrong anyone. (49)
And when We said to the angels, 'Prostrate to Adam,' and they prostrated, except for Iblis; he was of the jinn and disobeyed the command of his Lord. Will you then take him and his descendants as allies instead of Me, while they are enemies to you? An evil for replacement for the wrongdoers.
I did not bear witness that they created the heavens and the earth, nor their own creation, and I was not a supporter of the misleaders.
And the Day He will say, 'Call upon My partners whom you claimed,' and they will call upon them but will find no response from them, and We will place a barrier between them. (52)
And the criminals will see the fire and will assume that they will reach it, but they will find no way to escape from it. (53)
Propose to them the parable of this worldly life: it is like water that We send down from the sky; the vegetation of the earth mixes with it, then it becomes chaff that the winds disperse. Allah is capable of all things.
Wealth and children are the adornment of this worldly life; but lasting good deeds are, in the sight of your Lord, better in reward and better in hope.
The day when we make the mountains walk, and when you see the earth laid bare, we will gather them all without omitting a single one.
They will be presented in ranks before your Lord: 'Here you are, coming to Us as We created you the first time! Yet you thought We would never set a meeting for you!'
The Book will then be laid open, and you will see the terrified criminals because of what it contains. They will say: "Woe to us! What is it about this Book that leaves no small or large fault uncounted!" And they will find before them everything they have done. Your Lord does not wrong anyone.
And when We said to the angels, 'Prostrate yourselves before Adam!' they prostrated themselves, except Iblîs (Satan): he was among the jinn, and he rebelled against his Lord's command. Will you then take him and his descendants as allies besides Me, while they are your enemies? What a bad exchange for the wrongdoers!
I did not make them witnesses to the creation of the heavens and the earth, nor to their own creation, and I have never taken those who go astray as helpers.
The day He will say: 'Call My associates whom you claimed to have!' — they will invoke them, but they will not respond to them, and We will place between them a gulf of perdition.
The criminals will see the Fire and understand that they will fall into it, and they will find no way to escape it.
