Jules Verne and J. Férat in Michel Strogoff, a 1893 illustrated edition in French with Lenègre binding and gilt details.
Description from the seller
Copy preserved in its superb publisher’s cardboard binding called 'Au portrait collé.' Back to the lighthouse, second plate of the Lenègre type, with a blind stamp on a black background. Good first plate signed by Paul Souze, with beautiful golds, featuring in the center the lithographed and glued portrait of Jules Verne in color, with all edges gilded. (Lenègre binding).
Binding in good condition, minor flaws: gold decoration slightly faded on the top cover. Some handling marks on the bottom cover. Hinges are sturdy. Sporadic foxing, paper slightly yellowed. Manuscript ex-dono on the half-title. A fine copy.
Roman published in 1876. The novel recounts the journey of Michel Strogoff, courier of the Tsar of Russia Alexander II, from Moscow to Irkutsk, the capital of eastern Siberia. His mission is to warn the Tsar's brother, who has been out of contact since arriving in Moscow, about the arrival of the Tartarian hordes of Feofar Khan, guided by the traitor Ivan Ogareff, to conquer Siberia.
Drawings by J. Férat engraved by Ch. Barbant
HF catalog of new items for 1894-1895 preserved at the end of the volume.
