Andries van Buysen, illustrator, Statenbijbel - Andries van Buysen / Pieter Keur - [complete in 2 parts with maps and engravings].
Description from the seller
Very beautiful and richly illustrated Statenbijbel, published by Pieter Keur in Dordrecht in 1721–1722, in two volumes.
This classic Keurbijbel is one of the finest Dutch Bible editions of the 18th century. The edition is known for its high-quality typography and numerous copper engravings.
With an engraved title page, five double-page maps (including a world map and a plan of Jerusalem, published by Frederik Halma), thirteen double-page engravings, and a total of over 150 plates spread over the Old and New Testament, engraved by Andries van Buysen and others.
The bindings are made of eighteenth-century calfskin, richly decorated with blind stamping and a raised ribbed spine. Some wear and discoloration due to age are present, but overall they are in good and complete condition for their age.
Also included are seven additional engravings from the Old Testament, taken from “De Boecken Genaemt Apocryphe” (Amsterdam, Isaac van der Putte, 1715).
An impressive and complete copy of this important Dutch Statenbijbel, beloved by collectors for its printing history and artistic value.
