Islamic Ottoman/Bedouin Style Silver-metal Ring with Lapis Lazuli Intaglio of an Insect (No Reserve Price)
A very impressive Islamic Ottoman/Bedouin style silver-metal ring. It presents a raised square bezel with a lapis lazuli intaglio showing a double-winged insect, possibly a bee with its wings open. The intaglio decoration served as a stamp or a seal, illustrating a protective symbol or the heraldry of the owner. The raised bezel is richly decorated on all sides with geometric patterns. The ring shoulders are finely modelled in the shape of birds, possibly swimming ducks. Good solid condition, wearable. Signs of wear consistent with age and use.
Measurements: H 2.9cm x W 2.4cm
Inside diameter: 1.9cm
Closest UK ring size: P
Provenance: Purchased by the current owner in 2021. Prior English collection of Mr. A.H.D.
