Original Taisho–Showa period Japanese hanging scroll by Jutei (聚亭), hand signed, depicting a mounted samurai archer beneath a spring cherry tree; total 211 cm × 55 cm (painting 120 cm × 35.5 cm) on silk with ink and mineral pigments; in good condition.
Description from the seller
Absolute Auction – No Reserve.
A finely executed Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku) painted by Jutei (聚亭),
depicting a mounted samurai archer (yabusame) beneath a blooming spring cherry tree.
The samurai, dressed in vivid red and gold armor,
rides a strong black horse and holds his bow with calm dignity.
The lightly flowering sakura tree beside him introduces a gentle seasonal atmosphere,
symbolizing honor, renewal, and the fleeting beauty of life —
themes deeply rooted in Japanese aesthetics.
Executed with ink and mineral pigments on silk,
this work showcases precise brushwork, refined color harmony,
and a subtle balance between motion and stillness.
The contrast between the bold warrior and the soft cherry blossoms
exemplifies the graceful tension typical of Nihonga paintings in the early 20th century.
Mounted with elegant gold-patterned silk brocade,
and finished with plastic roller ends,
the scroll remains in very good condition and has been carefully remounted.

Dear Valued Buyers in Europe, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to you. Thanks to your continued support, I have been able to carry on my business for more than ten years. As of June 28, 2025, new regulations have taken full effect in the European Union concerning the importation of cultural property from outside the EU. Under these rules, when items are classified as “Cultural Property” or as antiques over 100 years old, and they are not accompanied by an Export Permit for Cultural Property, certain restrictions may apply under both Italian law and EU regulations. This Export Permit for Cultural Property has traditionally been required when exporting items such as swords, and obtaining it generally takes about one month. For this reason, when shipping hanging scrolls that are more than 100 years old, I will continue to use the same HS code as for those less than 100 years old. I sincerely ask for your kind understanding regarding this matter. With gratitude and respect,
