With a gaze rooted in the Catholic tradition, in which I was raised, and in the history of art, I revisit this personal memory through a series of drawings drawing inspiration from the iconography of the Pietà, taking as my object of study the body of Christ. In the traditional imagery of the Pietà, Christ lies in his mother’s arms, as she grieves her loss. In my work, the mother is gone. I become a body in mourning, unheld, in free fall. Trough this drawings I lean into the tension between the grounded and the falling, explore the absence, the memory as a narrative and the power of the narrative to enrich our personal stories.
